Brief Biographical Sketch:

Sarah is a neuroscience major at Pomona College. She happens to hold quite a lot of creative writing accolades, but people judging creative writing is pretty subjective so it's whatever! She likes writing, teaching, colorful sunsets, poetry, science (especially chemistry), vegetables, Broadway musicals, and ghosts. That's all you really need to know about her.

STEM the Write Way in Splash Spring 2018
Are you interested in a STEM career, whether that’s becoming a doctor, physicist, mathematician, engineer, or computer programmer? Can you also write effectively and enthusiastically? It’s okay if you don’t know how to yet, because this workshop is for learning how to write engagingly in relation to STEM topics! Although writing may be harder for a lot of students whose strength is in STEM, being able to write clearly, effectively, and memorably is a skill that is critical to anyone, regardless of your career path. You might want to write articles explaining the discoveries you’ve made to the public, admissions essays for college, or a memoir about your time working at a hospital or research lab. Writing is much more than putting a few sentences together; the best writing is emotional and relatable. In this workshop, we’ll use CREATIVE WRITING to hopefully break down the walls of writing for you. Being able to write about your own experiences can help you cope as well as share your memories. In this class we’ll learn about what makes interesting writing and have plenty of time to write our own piece, whether that’s an essay, story, narrative, or poem. Hopefully you’ll walk out with a piece that is personally significant to you as well as with a newfound understanding that writing doesn’t have to be boring, stiff, or formal; in fact, engaging writing demands that you be the opposite. Come as a beginner to creative writing or as an experienced writer ready to relieve some STEM stress!
